Ver esta publicación en Instagram As proud as I am of my family’s military background, I have also unfortunately witnessed much injustice regarding abuse and violence. And the culture of covering up crimes and turning a blind eye to countless women and their abusers is far too prevalent. I’ve struggled with this reality my whole life - having grown up in an abusive home, surrounded by many women who were fearful of their lives and did not have a clear means to escape or safely get help for themselves and their children. I feel as if I could have known someone like #VanessaGuillen myself. It is not easy for women to feel empowered to speak up, to feel confident that they will be supported and heard, especially in situations where they might feel outnumbered...where more often than not, the abusers will be let off just to come back more violent, threatening, and empowered the next time. More of us need to band together to give voice to these victims. We need to speak up and hold abusers and predators accountable before it happens to the next innocent person. Refuse to stay silent. I pray for changes to be made. I remember myself once living in fear and longing for better. My mother was one of the luckier ones. And so was I. I will continue to use my voice and be an advocate for victims of abuse to feel it is ok to speak up and demand to be heard. To know that you’re not alone. To know that it is not ok to be abused, harassed, or to live in fear of your life. Praying for the family of #VanessaGuillen. Praying for change within our systems. ❤️ #JusticeForVanessaGuillen Una publicación compartida por Christina Aguilera (@xtina) el 7 de Jul de 2020 a las 12:21 PDT
